Statement

Fran’s work explores the parallel themes of experience and recollection with particular emphasis on the phenomenon of involuntary memory.

She is interested in how the mundane details of life can have a profound impact on our lives; how these details in the shape of sense information can trigger and enhance both individual and collective recollections, bringing them into the present.

From the earliest pieces of work produced for the degree Fran has interrogated different aspects of what it means to remember.

For most of her recent work Fran has used text placed directly in specific locations and contexts.
The text itself may have little significance, it is a vehicle to communicate ideas about the immediacy of experience.

The text will fade or wear away with the passage of time; disappear even. At each stage of its evolution it is something different.
