Artist Statement

Jacqui’s work is concerned with the human condition. She is interested in texture and form. She works in mixed media to create textural sculptural forms that are often seen as disturbing and thought provoking. She is interested in exploration and experimentation and is always ready to exploit the textural qualities of the media that she uses. This desire for experimentation has previously led her to create textural sculpture using mod-roc, latex, and tissue paper. Jacqui has been influenced by the work of Marc Quinn, Magdalena Abakanowicz and Kiki Smith.

Jacqui’s latest work addresses cosmetic surgery and how people are often viewed as only having an exterior whilst the internal is ignored.

Breasts, noses, lips etc can now be picked from brochures and catalogues in the same way that the next outfit can be chosen. It has all become too easy. Is physical attractiveness all that we now have to offer?

There is more to us than skin. Skin (and clothing) is all but a cover, concealing that which lies within.

Within her latest work, Jacqui explores these concerns and creates an installation where clothing, plastic surgery and the body become one.
