Nina King
Artist Statement Nina believes that art should be playful and fun, enjoyed by both the creator and the viewer. With a background in illustration and product promotion; Nina uses a variety of media including: illustration, sculpture, painting, photography and film to explore the hidden meanings behind children’s rhymes and stories. Through exploration of different media; Nina has been influenced by a diverse group of artists including: Helen Oxenbury, Cindy Sherman, Joan Miro, Paul McCarthy, Channel 4 Idents, Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy. It is evident that she enjoys setting the scene, providing an environment in which to create. In producing the work, Nina strips down the original story, to reveal the truth. Any political correctness is removed, and re-produced in clear simple images. Degree Show For the Degree Show, Nina has adapted the traditional Hansel and Gretel story into a contemporary short film – Sugar & Spice. It was great fun to create, thoroughly enjoyed by all involved, and will be installed in a Gingerbread house. Special thanks to: Sugar & Spice Continental Patisserie who kindly sponsored the bread!
